(BBC Sport) Newcastle's Alexander Isak scored a dramatic stoppage-time winner at Nottingham Forest from the penalty spot to keep their hopes of a top-four finish firmly alive. Isak, who had earlier cancelled out Emmanuel Dennis' opener in the first half, coolly placed his spot-kick into the right corner after Moussa Niakhate was penalised for handball in the box. In an eventful encounter, Newcastle substitute Elliot Anderson thought he had made it 2-1 when he thumped in a header at the back post, only for it to be ruled out by VAR for offside in the build-up. Newcastle were on top for large spells and hit the crossbar twice in the first half, either side of a glorious chance fired over by Joe Willock from close range. Forest's opener came against the run of play when Newcastle defender Sven Botman unforgivably gifted possession to Dennis, who smartly chipped it over the players standing guard on the goalline. The visitors' pressure eventually paid off when Willock set-up Isak for a precise volley into the far corner on the stroke of half-time and the Swedish striker later delivered the winner to spark celebratory scenes in the away end in Nottingham. The result leaves Newcastle just a point behind Tottenham in fifth - and still with a game in hand - while Forest remain two points above the relegation zone.

(The Guardian) Eddie Howe has been speaking ahead of Newcastle United’s Super Sunday fixture with Manchester United, a reunion of the Carabao Cup final won by Erik ten Hag’s team. -- The games at this stage get bigger and bigger because you are running out of opponents to correct yourself if you make a mistake. We’re at home in front of our supporters. The last result was really positive [at Nottingham Forest]. It has been a long two weeks, we were keen to play again quite quickly. We felt we were good going into [the cup final]. We were as positive as we could be. We had a good rhythm. Maybe the two previous results before this one will help us. I’m really pleased with how we’ve trained.
You have to move on very quickly. I don’t think I ever get over a defeat, every one you have is in there somewhere. But I tend not to dwell on it because it’s history and you have to move on.He was also asked about his club’s ownership being questioned in the House of Commons. Howe answered in the usual way. -- I don’t think anything will affect the players. They are used to being in the headlines. It has always been about the football and for us, making sure we’re the best team we can be.
Sean Dyche has been garlanding record-breaker Harry Kane with praise ahead of Tottenham’s visit of Everton. -- Congratulations to him. I’m lucky enough to know a little bit and what a fantastic fellow he is, an all-round professional. Of course he is a threat, he has been season after season and even when he gets questioned he certainly shuts the question down pretty quickly with what he does.
But he’ll be aware it’s not just about him. They’ve got good players there in general. I know there’s a bit of noise out there and varying things going on, it seems, but at the end of the day, they’ve still got a good group of players there and we’ve got to be ready for that.

(The Guardian) Talking of Harry Kane, how big a chance does he have of individual awards this season? -- Harry Kane is in a similar position to [Marcus] Rashford. He is an outsider for the award but he has broken the goalscoring records for Tottenham and England this season so never say never. Kane is Haaland’s main competitor for the Golden Boot, having scored 21 times for Spurs. Haaland has a seven-goal lead in that battle but Kane is playing in a team plagued by uncertainty. Tottenham’s season threatens to peter out after Antonio Conte’s sacking on Sunday night, but Kane’s performances in front of goal have been consistent throughout. If, by some miracle, the 29-year-old can overhaul Haaland, he has a good chance of winning the award too.

(The Guardian) The Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers believes his team will never fall into the trap of thinking they are too good to be relegated from the Premier League. The Foxes are among the nine teams separated by just four points in the bottom half of the table and lie a point above the drop zone after taking a solitary point from their last five league games. However, Rodgers was encouraged by the way that point was achieved at Brentford in the last fixture before the international break and will be hoping for more of the same against relegation rivals Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park. “Most coaches are never going to be blessed to be only working with winning teams and be up there challenging for titles,” Rodgers said. “This is a different side (to the game), this is something you have to deal with but it’s the challenge we have in front of us and a challenge I’m really excited about, along with the staff, and making sure we can get as safe as we can, as quick as we can. “It’s just (about) ensuring and retaining the confidence of the players because when results are a bit mixed and not quite as consistent as you want them, of course confidence can drop. But we saw in our last game at Brentford, at a really difficult place, there was a fight there in the team, there’s a spirit there in the team, and when we have that and showed the moments of quality then we can get good results. That’s our plan over the course of the next 11 games.” Asked about the need to avoid a “too good to go down” mentality in the squad, the former Liverpool and Celtic manager said: “That’s something that will never be the case. That’s one of the pitfalls within the game, if you think you’re better than what you are. I think we’ve shown we can win games this season, and win games playing really well, but we haven’t been able to do it consistently enough to put us in the top half of the table. The reality is there for us and we can’t hide from that. We’re under no illusions about the challenge. We know the qualities we have in the team, but it’s more than that. It’s about consistency and consistency of mentality and when you do that you’ll pick up results on a consistent basis.” (PA Media)

(The Guardian) Courtesy of PA Media, a little more here from Sean Dyche, the Everton manager, before Tottenham’s trip to Goodison Park on Monday night: After Everton scored five goals in their current unbeaten run of three games, Dyche has seen reasons for optimism. The former Burnley manager, who succeeded Frank Lampard in January, said: “The stats have improved since I’ve been here on some of the markers that you want – getting bodies in the box, getting better quality going into the box, getting better quality of chances and, of course, different scorers. “It’s a responsibility for the whole team to score goals, to be productive from different areas of the pitch. I’ve always said effective football is what I want from the team and we’re showing good signs of that.”
Everton are two points above the bottom three ahead of this weekend’s round of fixtures. Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who has made just 12 appearances this season, is still out having not yet returned to full training following the thigh injury he sustained last month.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Philipp Lahm says that he thinks Jude Bellingham would be better off staying at Borussia Dortmund rather than pursue a big-money move in the summer (in terms of his development as a player). Lahm’s point is that Bellingham is better off playing every week, rather than joining a club where he may not get so much game time. “He’s a very good talented player,” Lahm says. “He has the responsibility for the club, for the team, and I think he is an outstanding talent. For young players, for these top guys, [it is important] to play week for week at a top club, and Dortmund is a top team, they are always in the Champions League and competing for the Bundesliga.”

Phil Dawkes, BBC Sport at Elland Road: This is a big week for both of these sides.
Leeds' next two fixtures will be the litmus test for their season, to see whether they are in for another tense scrap to the wire or less stressful vantage point from which to watch the chaos unfold below them. Forest tonight and Palace on Sunday at home are fixtures from which they would hope to take maximum points. That they are sandwiched so close together just ramps up the urgency.
Forest have two away games, starting with this tonight and then Villa on Saturday. Tricky tests but exactly the kind they sought through promotion to the top tier. What will they see as a good return? A point from each?
One thing is guaranteed... you are going to be able to feel the tension around Elland Road tonight. The roar at the start with just a slight hint of fear, the murmurs that will spread around the ground after near misses and the release that will greet any goal. Phil Dawkes, BBC Sport at Elland Road: It's that time of year when you turn up to an evening game and the sun is still out. You can wear short sleeves without looking an utter fool (although you better bring your big coat because it won't be warm later!).
It's also that point in the season when teams start to fret if they are still in touching distance of the bottom three and boy are these two in touching distance.
Leeds are currently in that relegation zone as one of the nine teams battling to stay afloat. Forest aren't much better off, a point and two places better off than the Whites. That group of nine is slightly less congested than it was a week ago, but seven points from 12th to 20th suggests there will be some twists and turns yet.

Micah Richards, BBC Radio 5 Live's Monday Night Club: About a month ago, myself and Chris Sutton were asked who we were worried about the most [to be relegated] and we both didn't say Leicester.
Now you ask the same question and I'm actually worried about them now. If [James] Maddison's not involved in the game, [Harvey] Barnes can't get involved, [Patson] Daka can't get involved and they just look a really ordinary side.

(BBC Sport) Crystal Palace staged a remarkable second-half turnaround to give a significant boost to their Premier League survival hopes and leave stunned Leeds with plenty of work to do in their own bid to avoid relegation. The Eagles scored four goals after the break with Jordan Ayew - in for the injured Wilfried Zaha - scoring two in an incredible demolition of the home side. Such a victory looked hugely unlikely after Patrick Bamford's 50th goal for the club gave Leeds the reward their early dominance deserved. But from then on it all went downhill as Marc Guehi flicked in an equaliser on the stroke of half-time before Palace scored two goals in two minutes soon after the break. First, Ayew made it 2-1 with an excellent header before Eberechi Eze added a quick third, poking in from Michael Olise's pass. Odsonne Edouard drove a fourth into the bottom corner following a quick counter - with the excellent Olise providing the assist again - and Ayew completed the rout late on when he lifted a shot over Illan Meslier, prompting many Leeds fans to leave. The stunning win moves Crystal Palace up to 12th in the Premier League, six points clear of the relegation zone, while Leeds are 16th, just two points above the drop. (BBC Sport) Roberto Firmino scored a dramatic late equaliser as Arsenal's lead at the top of the Premier League was cut to six points in an incident-packed encounter with Liverpool at Anfield. The Gunners were in cruise control with a two-goal lead inside the first half-hour as they went in search for their first win at Liverpool since 2012, but were left bitterly disappointed as they paid the price for losing their discipline at a crucial time. Gabriel Martinelli pounced on sloppy Liverpool defending to put Arsenal ahead after eight minutes then Gabriel Jesus rose unmarked between Virgil van Dijk and Andy Robertson to head home at the Kop End. Liverpool sparked into life after a flashpoint between Granit Xhaka and Trent Alexander-Arnold late in the first half, Mohamed Salah scoring at the far post just before the break to set up a thriller. There was a bizarre incident at the end of the first half when referee's assistant Constantine Hatzidakis appeared to elbow Liverpool defender Robertson as the teams left the field. In a dramatic second half, Salah missed his second successive penalty when he shot wide after Rob Holding fouled Diogo Jota before Firmino rose at the far post to head home Alexander-Arnold's cross with three minutes left. In a frantic climax, Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale - who had already saved crucially from Darwin Nunez - produced two incredible stops from Salah and Ibrahima Konate as Mikel Arteta's pace-setters had to settle for a point, with Liverpool fully deserving their share of the spoils for a stirring fightback. It means the destiny of the title is now in Manchester City's hands as they have a game in hand and have a home game against Arsenal to come.

(The Guardian) Martínez blow for Manchester United Lisandro Martínez injury update: The Manchester United centre-back suffered what looked on first glance like a nasty Achilles injury during Manchester United’s Europa League quarter-final first leg draw with Sevilla last night but Erik Ten Hag says the injury is not as bad as first feared. “No it’s not that area,” he said after the game. “I can’t tell, but it’s not the area of Achilles. I have spoken with him, he is okay, he is calm. I think [it is] an injury [that means] he will not play on Sunday. I cannot say what the diagnosis [is]. I prefer to wait and to know what it is.” While Martínez can expect a spell on the sidelines, his defensive partner Raphael Varane may be fit for Sunday despite being substituted at half-time due to suffering from the effects of an unspecified knock. “That injury, he complained [about it] over the last couple of weeks and we have to see how it is now,” said Ten Hag.
