Still waiting for the new kick off time due to protests. Just got back online an hour ago, Ste_Macca - there was a damaged internet cable in our area that took everything offline for about 18 hours or so - and I come back to see.... (The Guardian) And here’s the Premier League statement“Following the security breach at Old Trafford, the Manchester United vs. Liverpool game has been postponed. This is a collective decision from the police, both clubs, the Premier League and local authorities. “The security and safety of everyone at Old Trafford remains of paramount importance. We understand and respect the strength of feeling but condemn all acts of violence, criminal damage and trespass, especially given the associated COVID-19 breaches. Fans have many channels by which to make their views known, but the actions of a minority seen today have no justification. “We sympathise with the police and stewards who had to deal with a dangerous situation that should have no place in football. The rearrangement of the fixture will be communicated in due course.”

(The Guardian) Steve, a Liverpool fans in Liverpool, says: “If today’s riot had have happened at Millwall/Chelsea or, god forbid...Anfield – the reporting (sic) would have been 180 degrees different. By the way – any news on the Liverpool team? Sky were camped outside the vastly overrated Lowry weeping for their team inside. They never showed the slightest interest in Liverpool FC. Disgusting bias dominating English football, on and off the field, for the last 40 years.” One thing to say is that this happened when a social media boycott is taking place, with still only a few journalists and media breaking the embargo that runs until midnight tomorrow. Without such noises off, there was a certain purity to the events, with some of those responsible getting their message out there via Twitter and little dissent against them. Though there was always Graeme Souness. Micah Richards also sat on the fence, though Sky’s broadcast included plenty of supportive words for the protestors from Gary Neville, Jamie Carragher and Roy Keane. Some afternoon’s work for David Jones as anchorman.

....since they only postponed the match, I'm keeping the thread stickied until the match is held.... (BBC Sport) Manchester United's postponed home Premier League match with Liverpool has been rearranged for Thursday, 13 May (20:15 BST). The decision means United must play two games in the space of 50 hours as their home game against Leicester has been moved forward a day to Tuesday, 11 May. Liverpool's game at West Brom, which was thought might be moved to accommodate the fixture, will remain as scheduled on Sunday, 16 May. Thousands of United supporters demonstrated against the Glazer family's ownership at Old Trafford and the team hotel prior to the Liverpool game on Sunday, forcing its abandonment. Police say six officers were injured during the protests, which also saw around 200 fans break into the stadium. Sunday's game, which had been scheduled to kick off at 16:30 BST, was the first Premier League match to be postponed because of fan protests. United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said "it was a difficult day" for them, and added that fan protests must remain "civilised" in future. Despite rumours of potential disruption to their travel plans, United arrived at the airport for their flight to Italy for Thursday's Europa League semi-final with Roma without a problem. The game in Rome kicks off what is now a busy schedule for United, who are second in the Premier League table, and will have to play four games in eight days, including a trip to Aston Villa on Sunday: --Thursday, 6 May (20:00 BST): Roma v Man Utd (Stadio Olimpico, Europa League semi-final second leg) --Sunday, 9 May (14:05 BST): Aston Villa v Man Utd (Villa Park, Premier League) --Tuesday, 11 May (18:00 BST): Man Utd v Leicester City (Old Trafford, Premier League) --Thursday, 13 May (20:15 BST): Man Utd v Liverpool (Old Trafford, Premier League) Meanwhile, Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers says he is not worried about the prospect of further protests by United fans and potential for disruptions when they travel to Old Trafford next week. When asked about the possible need to boost security around the Foxes squad, Rodgers said: "We've got no concerns. "Obviously we've seen the protest last weekend. We condemn any violence that was seen on the day, but certainly for the Manchester United supporters there has clearly been a source of frustration for many, many years for them, and they come out to support the team and support their role within that. But for us, going there next week, we've got no concerns whatsoever. We look forward to going there and playing the game."

(The Guardian) Preamble-- Do we have a game today? It remains unclear. Following on from the protests which caused this fixture to be postponed earlier this month, Manchester United fans are again protesting outside Old Trafford and beyond. Anger remains over the European Super League involvement although the majority of the ire remains towards the club’s owners, the Glazer family. Manchester United fans have blocked a Liverpool bus en route to Old Trafford, with the bus’ tyres reportedly being let down. It is unclear whether the Liverpool team is inside the bus, but police are now on the scene attempting to disperse the protesters. If the game does go ahead, it’s a particularly huge one for Liverpool. If they win they will go fifth, four points behind Chelsea and with a game in hand. If they don’t, their top-four hopes recede significantly and that’d count as a big disappointment in the final analysis.
The Liverpool bus is moving again, and the large police presence does suggest that the Liverpool team is inside. It is not clear whether the poodle is part of the protests.

(The Guardian) Alex Mistlin is one of our reporters who is outside Old Trafford. How exactly the Liverpool (or Manchester United) bus will be able to approach the stadium remains uncertain. There are already a significant number of people outside and one imagines there will be more disruption. -- Two hours before kick off there’s already a large crowd gathered outside the East Stand. People are setting off yellow and green flares and there’s a police helicopter circling the ground.

(The Guardian) Gary Neville on Sky. Let’s be clear, what we’ve seen on that full-court before which is effectively Man United turned into a prison, it’s a devastating image for the Manchester United Football Club brand around the world, let’s just note that. You have to put prison walls up around your ground and have hundreds and hundreds of police officers on a game where fans aren’t attending, there is something that has gone badly wrong.

(The Guardian) It is worth noting that all the protests appear to be peaceful. Some Manchester United fans are chanting “we’re going on the pitch again” outside Old Trafford.
Manchester United players and staff are already safely inside the stadium. They arrived at Old Trafford earlier.

(The Guardian) The Manchester Evening News is reporting that the Manchester United players drove themselves to the stadium and that two team buses did dummy runs between their own hotel and the stadium in a bid to throw off protesters. We are not entirely sure where the Liverpool team is, and if they are in the Liverpool bus. The hotel they were staying at is about two miles from Old Trafford.
Roy Keane on Sky Sports: Manchester United fans are not done with this, we saw some protests a few weeks ago, but I think there is still a lot to come. The concern is that when the fans can come back to the stadium, you could have 70,000 fans showing up at Old Trafford, frustrated with what happened. Things can get much worse.”Graeme Souness, meanwhile, is talking absolute gibberish. He seems to be a very confused man, and seems to hold a strange reverence for the Glazer family. Incoherent ramblings by a man who doesn’t seem to understand what the fans are actually protesting. “They are powerful people” he says of the Manchester United owners.

(The Guardian) Liverpool's squad is now inside Old TraffordIt looks like we are going to have a game, then, and that the red Liverpool bus was a decoy. There are pictures of Liverpool players entering the dressing rooms.
Sadio Mané is walking the Old Trafford pitch with Shaqiri in his training gear. They both look fairly relaxed.
